ROASTNEST
Roastnest is an open-source-first company building feedback toolkits that focus on providing detailed context of the problems. Here, we want to share the story and mission of our company.
STORY
Since 2022, Satyam and Yashvardhan have been building software products from scratch and leading teams at various companies. Through their journey, they've worked in senior positions, gaining firsthand experience in product development cycles. Along the way, they noticed a recurring challenge—whenever developers received feedback, the development cycle slowed down. Why? Because developers had to spend extra time recreating issues, understanding the context, and figuring out exactly what needed to be fixed.
Feedback is one of the most crucial aspects of building a great product, but they saw that existing solutions weren't quite solving the problem. In january 2024, They began experimenting with different ways to improve feedback collection. Their first attempt was a web app similar to Product Hunt, designed to gather user insights. Next, they built a web widget like Intercom to capture feedback directly from users. Then, they tried a JavaScript script like Hotjar to track interactions and gather more data.
Each of these versions had its strengths, but they all had one major drawback: users still had to manually provide context. Without proper context, feedback often felt incomplete, making it difficult for developers to take immediate action. More importantly, none of these solutions were built with developers in mind—they were designed primarily for product teams, which meant they weren't particularly useful during the development phase.
Determined to solve this, in february 2025, they built the fourth version—one that truly focuses on providing context effortlessly. This new solution comes with two open-source tools: an npm package for production environments and a web extension for development. Both tools are completely free and can be self-hosted, giving teams full control over their data.
For those who want a more streamlined experience without the hassle of self-hosting, they also launched a web app that provides advanced analytics and seamless integration with popular communication tools like Slack. Now, teams can easily collect feedback with full context, reducing back-and-forth communication and speeding up the development process.
MISSION
We aim to automate the feedback cycle—from gathering and analyzing feedback to suggesting improvements and even fixing bugs—by leveraging the power of the open-source community and artificial intelligence.
